The La Concha regattas were organised for the first time in <strong>1879<\/strong> as part of the <strong>programme of summer festivities in San Sebastian<\/strong>. Fishing trawlers were used for this purpose, which until then had been pitted against each other, in <strong>challenges with money<\/strong> involved, to determine their superiority.<\/p>\r\n<p>The San Sebastian regattas have been held <strong>since 1879<\/strong> as part of the city&#8217;s festivities. They take place on the <strong>first two Sundays in September<\/strong> in the bay of La Concha. Since 2008, the <strong>women&#8217;s category<\/strong> has also been held. Since its beginnings, it has been a slender vessel in its lines and fast in its displacement and its measurements (12 metres in length) have remained unchanged up to the present day.<\/p>\r\n<p>Over time, the motor replaced man-powered boats, but for years, the world of regattas continued to be <strong>linked to fishing<\/strong>. Professionals in the sector were trained in the best crews on the coast. And even today, although rowers are no longer exclusively fishermen and there has been a pseudo-professionalisation in the sport of fixed-bank rowing, rowers still belong to clubs formed in towns with a long fishing tradition.<\/p>\r\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"traineras-ambiente-113\" src=\"https:\/\/basquemagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/traineras-ambiente-113.jpg\" alt=\"Kaiku trawler\" width=\"970\" height=\"580\" \/><\/p>\r\n<h2>Since 1879<\/h2>\r\n<p>The large number of people who attended that Sunday in September to witness the victory of the<strong> &#8220;Lequeitiarra&#8221;<\/strong> (with Donostian registration and rowers) encouraged the Donostia City Council to include the regattas in the programmes of the following years. With the exception of a few years at the beginning of the century and during the civil war, the regattas have been held uninterruptedly up to the present day.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>More than one hundred years<\/strong> of history have made the Donostia\/San Sebasti\u00e1n-Bandera de la Concha Regattas the spectacle of the sporting year in the Basque Country.
