Empty it completely and rebuild it from scratch. To empty it completely and <strong>rebuild<\/strong> it again, maintaining the external structure, but adapting its spaces to the new uses &#8211;<strong>bar, restaurant and 50-room hotel<\/strong>-. They have achieved this in a year and a half. Those responsible for its interior design present Hotel Arbaso to us.<\/p>\r\n<p>&#8220;For us, <strong>what is important in a hotel is that you can feel a little bit at home<\/strong>, we don&#8217;t like the standardised aesthetics of chain hotels. Normally these types of hotels are found in small establishments, in very specific locations in Europe, something that we believe does not happen so much here. In some hotels in Denmark or London there is more of a design culture. And that&#8217;s what inspired us to make this hotel&#8221;, says <strong>Amaia Orrico<\/strong>, who, together with <strong>Arantza Ania<\/strong>, has directed the interior design of the Arbaso Hotel.<\/p>\r\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Inside of a room in Arbaso Hotel\" src=\"https:\/\/basquemagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/arbaso-hotelbn.gif\" alt=\"Inside of a room in Arbaso Hotel\" width=\"970\" height=\"688\" \/> Inside of a room in Arbaso Hotel <img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Bedroom\" src=\"https:\/\/basquemagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Hotel-Arbaso_Habitacion-304.gif\" alt=\"Bedroom\" width=\"970\" height=\"695\" \/> Bedroom<\/p>\r\n<p>For <strong>I\u00f1igo G\u00e1rate<\/strong>, from the <strong>FIARK architecture studio<\/strong>, &#8220;the idea we wanted to transmit in this hotel was that of <strong>warmth and quality<\/strong>, with a discourse closely linked to this land, the Basque Country. It is the environment that surrounds us, which is also the reason for the choice of materials. From the choice of the type of wood -oak and walnut-, the steel of the tables, the leather of the sofas, carpets and the rest of the furniture, the linen or the colours of the rooms. <strong>Everything is very natural and related to our environment<\/strong>&#8220;. His suppliers have been local.<\/p>\r\n<p>As an example, the use of <strong>&#8220;Markina black&#8221;<\/strong> <strong>marble<\/strong> on the floors that cover the ground floor of the hotel and the restaurant. They are the same colour that is used in all the floors in the streets of San Sebasti\u00e1n.<\/p>\r\n<p>&#8220;We have been very fortunate that the <strong>owners have had a lot of confidence in our work<\/strong> and have let us do our job, we have been able to choose, propose and suggest. Many professionals have participated in the refurbishment of this hotel and together we have been able to unify the discourse and the project. With one exception. The <strong>duplex rooms<\/strong> on the upper floor, where, owing to their south orientation, forest green has been used instead of white to avoid excessive light coming in through the skylights.<\/p>\r\n<h2>Highly functional<\/h2>\r\n<p>&#8220;Another of the most important challenges has been to create a highly functional space following hotel, business and interior design criteria. To <strong>satisfy the needs of all types of clients<\/strong>, from young people who are familiar with digitalisation and home automation, to people of a certain age who sometimes find it difficult to use these mechanisms. <strong>Everything here is easy, intuitive and functional.
