It will also be available for consultation in the libraries of Gipuzkoa, distributed by the Provincial Council and the Foundation.<\/p>\n<h2>\n\t\tThe context of the Magallanes-Elcano expedition\n\t<\/h2>\n\t<p>The Department of <strong>Culture of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa<\/strong> approved in 2020, together with Elkano Fundazioa, Euskal Itsas Museoa and Albaola Itsas Kultur Faktoria, the organisation of an international congress entitled &#8220;M\u00e1s all\u00e1 del mito y la epopeya&#8221; (<em>Beyond myth and epic<\/em>) with the aim of making new knowledge available to the public on the context of the Magellan-Elcano expedition and the Basque Country at the beginning of the 16th century.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Covid-19 <strong>pandemic prevented us from holding the congress<\/strong>, but the Department of Culture supported the preparation and publication of this highly popular book based on the scientific research that different specialists had planned to present at the congress, thus <strong>maintaining our commitment<\/strong>&#8220;, <strong>Millan<\/strong> declared.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ssl-host:8890\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/GETARIA-002.jpg\" alt=\"Statue of Elkano in his hometown, Getaria.\" itemprop=\"image\" title=\"GETARIA-002\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\"  \/>\n\t\tStatue of Elkano in his hometown, Getaria.\n\t<p>In the words of <strong>Rafa Zulaika<\/strong>, member of <strong>Elkano Fundazioa<\/strong>, &#8220;with this publication, the Foundation continues its line of work consisting of deepening the knowledge of the context in which <strong>Elkano&#8217;s first circumnavigation<\/strong> was possible, disseminating it to society and doing so through collaboration and networking&#8221;.
