Next year’s edition of the Tour de France<\/strong><\/a> will start in the Basque Country<\/strong> and its first 3 stages<\/strong> will cross our territory, a unique opportunity to show the world the best that we have. And that is a lot.<\/p>\r\n

During the presentation of these three stages, Tour director Christian Prudhomme said that “this is a land of cycling, with great riders past and present<\/strong>.\u00a0Vitoria, in particular where we are, the home of KAS, a legendary team. The commitment of all the institutions to this project has made it possible for us to be here today and, in July 2023, on the starting line. Moreover, it will be a new meeting with one of the best fans in the world<\/strong>“.<\/p>\r\n

Lehendakari Urkullu added that “this is a bid<\/strong> to show what this land is all about.\u00a0We want to show the whole world our landscapes, our people and our customs<\/strong> after a very complicated period of pandemic from which we are trying to emerge”.<\/p>\r\n

The three Basque stages of the Tour 2023 will be the best showcase for the Basque Country<\/strong> imaginable, with television audiences of millions of viewers every day<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

The three stages<\/h2>\r\n

The first stage, with a steep climb, will be 185km long. It will pass through Laukiz, Sopela, San Juan de Gaztelugatxe<\/strong>, Gernika, Ibarrangelu, Zabaleta, Morga Heights, Vivero and Pike to return to the Biscayan capital<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n

The second, of 210km, will link Vitoria with Donostia<\/strong> and will pass through Legutiano, the heights of Udana and Aztiria, Zaldibia, Alto de Alkiza, Hernani, Alto de Gurutze and Jaizkibel before arriving in the capital of Gipuzkoa.<\/p>\r\n

The third, between Amorebieta and Bayonne, will run along the Basque Coast. Deba, Zumaia, Getaria or Zarauz<\/strong> will be protagonists but the final route and the absolute mileage are still to be finalised.<\/p>\r\n
