Although it premiered at the end of 2020 and was recognised as the most outstanding theatrical script in Spain at the Max Awards 2022<\/strong> (Best Playwriting<\/strong> for Mar\u00eda Velasco -beating the unanimously acclaimed “Una noche sin luna”, by Juan Diego Botto-), the play “Talar\u00e9 a los hombres de sobre la faz de la tierra”<\/a> had not yet been seen in the Basque Country. 1 December.<\/p>\r\n But their long, intermittent tour over the last three years will now end with a final stop in Bilbao<\/strong> thanks to Sala BBK<\/strong>. This Friday, 1 December, will be the first and last time this production can be enjoyed in the Basque Country.<\/p>\r\n Written, directed and produced by Velasco<\/strong>, an author from Burgos known for her commitment to autofiction and the hybridisation of genres (which she has already deployed in a dozen plays), it tells the story of a pre-adolescent girl who, at a barbecue with her family, wanders off to read under a tree in a clearing in the forest. Based on this premise, the text x-rays the passage to adulthood<\/strong> with the structure “of classic children’s stories such as ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ or ‘Alice in Wonderland’,” Velasco says.<\/p>\r\n “Talar\u00e9 a los hombres de sobre la faz de la tierra” narrates the “true ordeal”<\/strong> of the millennial woman (generation born in the 80s and early 90s), a “nightmarish path of descent into the hells of violence and abuse, sometimes tremendously subtle, to which women are subjected by the patriarchy and which even we ourselves have normalised”, in Velasco’s words. The protagonist (played by the young actress Paula Ruiz<\/strong>) is the girlfriend of an abuser, the niece of a whoremonger and a prostitute herself in order to finance her doctorate.<\/p>\r\n Alone in the forest, she will become aware of the situation and will be able to “strike a blow at the table” against the system. Through this story, the author, who recognises the autofictional origin of the narration, speaks of universal themes<\/strong>: childhood, family, sex, love and even ecology, as she draws a parallel between the subjugation of women and the intensive extractivism suffered by the environment at the hands of man.
