The Galarza Fund<\/strong>, one of the most important photographic collections held by San Telmo Museoa<\/a><\/strong>, is made up of more than 3,000 documents<\/strong>. A very careful selection of this collection can be seen in this curious exhibition that shows the most representative images of the cosmopolitan seaside resort town at the beginning of the last century. To do so, they chose the most representative images of the cosmopolitan seaside resort city, which would be taken as souvenirs as postcards<\/strong> by those who visited it, helping to establish the iconic image of the Donostia of the first half of the 20th century. Without disregarding the informative power and tourist attraction<\/strong> that postcards had at the time, it is also important to highlight their value as a document that illustrates an era in detail and facilitates its understanding for current and future generations, this documentary function being the main reason for the exhibition.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\"IMG_0854\"\n\t

The images have been arranged according to a spatial criterion that allows us to take a visual tour of the city, starting in the Old Town<\/strong> and its surroundings, and continuing through the Cort\u00e1zar extension<\/strong> and the Alderdi Eder gardens. An extensive section is devoted to the bay and the Concha and Ondarreta beaches<\/strong>, with their promenades. Next, the neighbourhood of Gros<\/strong>, the Chofre bullring and the development of the Kursaal extension are shown. Finally, we enter the southern extension, to the south of the Avenida, to continue upstream along the Urumea towards Amara Nuevo<\/strong> and Loiola<\/strong>. The exhibition route also takes us to the amusement parks of Ulia, Martutene and Igeldo, to end up witnessing the spectacular carnivals of the early 20th century and to direct our gaze towards the traditional types and customs of the country in the so-called ‘Basque scenes’.<\/p>\n

Thanks to these images, it is possible to contemplate not only the transformation of the city and its surroundings<\/strong>, but also the evolution of lifestyles over time.<\/p>\n\t
