The permanent market of Saint-Jean-de-Luz (created in 1884) is the focal point of local and commercial life in this beautiful Basque-French town, located 35 km from Donostia-San Sebastián and renowned for its fishing port (once a whaling port), its beaches and its local commerce, centred on rue Gambeta and the surrounding area. All of this spiced up with a very chic touch, which Parisians, the main visitors to Saint-Jean-de-Luz in summer, like so much.

Rue Gambetta and San Juan
Saint-Jean-de-Luz is a laid-back holiday destination set in a bay. It has a beautiful fine sandy beach and a historic centre with colourful Basque-style houses. One of the main attractions of Saint-Jean-de-Luz is the beautiful beach, known as Playa Grande (big beach), and the promenade that runs along it.
Rue Gambetta is the main pedestrian street and is where most of the shops are located. There are clothing boutiques, sweet shops, local products, shops selling typical Basque products... However, the most important building in this street is the Church of San Juan Bautista which was built between the 15th and 17th centuries, and is considered one of the most representative churches of the Basque Country. The Place Louis XIV or the Port are other places you must visit if you pass through Saint-Jean-de-Luz.
