You won't be short of things to do in Zumarraga. In this town of Alto Urola, you will find three routes with 360º experiences that help you get to know the town and its citizens, with the Zumarragako Azoka as the central axis of the routes; but also of the town, its history, identity and values .
But Zumarraga has much more to offer; the festivities of the village Santa Isabel and its 'Ezpata Dantza' or 'Antioko musikaldia' that attracts music lovers from all over the Basque Country, the infallible fair of Santa Lucia or the increasingly well-known 'Buzkantza eguna' are some of the non-material and patrimonial values of the town.
In 1930 Zumarraga entered fully into industrial development with the E. Orbegozo steelworks, then "Fumistería del Norte". The need for labor was so great that it caused the population to grow exponentially. It generated a strong demand for housing and a growth in commercial activity, turning Zumarraga into the head of the Alto Urola region. That is why the Industrial Route shows us the influence of industry in the town.
In the case of the Natural Route, you will have a route to enjoy the natural wealth that completes the town. In it you will find an experience full of green environments and landscapes surrounding the top of Mount Beloki, megalithic monuments such as Oleta or the stages of the route of the three temples that unite Loiola and Arantzazu.

Santa Lucia Fair - "Santa Lutzi"
Commonly known as "Santa Lutzi", it is an agricultural and rural fair that has been held since the 18th century. Today the fair is divided between the communities of Zumarraga and Urretxu; divided by the Urola river. The first sector, local commerce, livestock and garden products are key to this festivity. At the same time, the sale of handicrafts and gastronomic contests are another of the strong points of the fair. It is celebrated on December 13.
Gastronomy, 'Buzkantza' day and more
The Basque Country cannot be understood without its gastronomy; and Zumarraga is no exception. The day of the 'Buzkantza', or sheep's blood sausage, is becoming more and more popular in the surroundings of the region. Restaurants such as Etxebarri or Kabia are already establishments that share the sun of the Repsol guide (2024), they have customers from all over the territory on their lips. But the local gastronomy is not complete without the offer of bars in town; dozens of pintxos and drinks await you!
