The work La Getaria de Elcano (1487-1526) is a historical research work centred geographically on the town of Getaria and temporally on the four decades in which the life of Juan Sebastián Elcano took place.  The publication is divided into four chapters in which the author shows the physical environment and urban structure of the town, outlines the social and economic structure and refers to different aspects of the society of the time. Finally, he describes the influence that women exerted on Elcano throughout his life.

Presentación del libro.

It has been presented at the Basque Maritime Museum. Carlos Olaetxea, Head of the Gordailua and Museums Service of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, together with Xabier Alberdi and Ion Irurzun, director of the Basque Maritime Museum and director of Elkano 500 Fundazioa, and the author of the work Daniel Zulaika took part in the press conference. Daniel Zulaika, in addition to being a member of the Elkano 500 Fundazioa Advisory Committee, has published several books and articles on Juan Sebastián Elcano and the first round the world voyage.

During the presentation, the director of the Basque Maritime Museum emphasised the close ties between the Museum and Daniel Zulaika, who has always considered the Museum to be a leading reference point for the maritime history and heritage of the Basque Country.

The author has made the publication available to the public, free of charge, on the Euskal Itsas Museoa and Elkano 500 Fundazioa websites. It has also been distributed in different public libraries in the Basque Country and in bookshops in Donostia and Bilbao. The profits from this sale will be donated to the NGO Zaporeak.
