The true ‘Balenciaga character’

Más sobre:
The Cristóbal Balenciaga Museum in Getaria explores a new perspective on the work of the Basque couturier, never before explored, and focusing on what makes "a Balenciaga" recognisable.
The exhibition "Balenciaga. Character" shows everything from the comic silhouettes of the late 1930s to the more abstract shapes of the 1960s, as well as the iconic lines of the 1950s. The shapes and volumes created by Cristóbal Balenciaga are his main hallmarks.

The sculptural shapes that abstract from the body, the design intention focused on the waist, shoulders or back, together with the surprising interiors that combine skill and ingenuity, are the hallmarks of Balenciaga's character.
Technical knowledge and mastery of fabrics at the service of a revolutionary conception of feminine elegance in which comfort and simplicity are paramount.
The exhibition brings together works from the museum's collection that respond to these premises and synthesise the distinctive elements of the production of one of the most influential Haute Couture houses of the 20th century.

A fashion museum
The Cristóbal Balenciaga Museum, inaugurated on 7 June 2011, is located in Getaria, the couturier's birthplace and the scene of his formative years and professional maturity, essential for understanding his contribution to the world of fashion.
With the aim of raising awareness of Balenciaga's life and work, his relevance in the history of fashion and design, and the contemporaneity of his legacy, the Museum houses a unique collection. Its breadth and its formal and chronological extension make this collection one of the most complete, coherent and interesting.

The Museum is housed in an emblematic, architecturally relevant building that combines the historic Aldamar palace - the former residence of the Marquises of Casa Torres, patron of the young Cristóbal - with a contemporary-style extension of more than 9,000 square metres.
