Remnants of the town's industrious past can still be seen: the steep streets of the Old Port with its narrow houses are a reminder of life in this village and its dependence on the sea for its livelihood for centuries.
Noted for its beauty and well-known silhouette, the Bizkaia Bridge is 130 years old. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2006 and is also a Historic-Artistic Monument.
