Javier López Altuna exhibits at the J70 gallery in San Sebastián

Until 19 September we can enjoy the exhibition of paintings and mixed media by Javier López Altuna, "TELONES", in the shop/gallery J70, located in the Gros district of San Sebastian, very close to the beach. A good opportunity to get to know this multidisciplinary space where novelties are combined with vintage furniture from the 50s, 60s and 70s.

"I chose J70 to exhibit my work because when I saw their shop windows, I was always struck by how they created atmospheres combining lighting, authentic vintage pieces and contemporary furniture in a space with character...

The day I saw the enveloping grey with which they had painted the walls and the ambience they had achieved, I didn't hesitate for a second and went in to propose my work. The opportunity to fuse art and design in this unique place, a mixture of shop, interior design studio and artisan workshop, seemed unique to me and I was delighted when they agreed to exhibit my work", says Javier López about the choice of space for his exhibition.

"Telones"

The Telones series has the aftertaste of a photographic studio backdrop, of a mural tapestry from another time, or of a wall without further ado, one of those that speak through the marks of what they have lived through. By assembling pieces, treated separately, we arrive at a modular composition that can be folded and unfolded, occupying the space in different ways, drawing an analogy with the way in which we constantly adapt to our living space.

Modulable space, available space, vital space... this is the reflection that this series proposes to us.

The works on corrugated cardboard have a connection with the rituals of consumption and their supports. The warmth of this material, its immediacy and versatility, propitiate here works that combine colour with textures, planes and even dies from the unfolded packaging itself. Reflection on consumption habits, sustainability, etc... can also be found in this reused packaging and reconverted into a plastic work.

The works on paper are dominated by a constructive will, based on the strength of the black structure and the sobriety of the chromatic range of black, grey and brown. The flashes of white allude to the light that always finds a way through and gives us life.
