PHOTO-ARABA, the portal created by the Archive of Alava for the dissemination of the photographic heritage of the Provincial Council reaches 100,000 images disseminated through the Internet. Along with the latest increase in the number of images, PHOTO-ARABA has added a new virtual exhibition dedicated to the promotion of Deportivo Alavés to the First Division in 1954.

PHOTO-ARABA is a cultural project in continuous growth since it was inaugurated on 10 June with fifty thousand photographs. Less than six months later, it has already doubled this volume and has become the Basque Country's website with the largest volume of historical photographs available for consultation and free downloading.
The Basque Government's Deputy for Culture and Sport, Ana del Val, stressed the "importance" of making the Archive's photographic collections available for public consultation in the most accessible way possible, "both to make their great value known to all citizens and to guarantee their future conservation. She also pointed out that, to date, the portal has received 195,063 hits".

Promotion of Alavés
Along with the latest increase in the number of images, PHOTO-ARABA has also added a new virtual exhibition dedicated to the promotion of Deportivo Alavés to the First Division in 1954. To date, five thematic exhibitions have been published by specialists who analyse, through the portal's photographs, the transformation of Alava and Alava's society over the last 150 years.
In the coming months, PHOTO-ARABA will continue to grow in terms of content, which will be included in the portals Euskariana -of the Basque Government-, Hispana -of the Ministry of Culture and Sport- and Europeana -of the European Union- "In this way, the heritage of Alava will be present in global cultural repositories", concludes Del Val.
