Bilbao Bizkaia launches new air route to Hamburg
This new connection is the result of the work carried out by the Bilbao Airport Routes Committee, in which the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, Bilbao City Council, the Basque Government, the Chamber of Commerce, Aena and Bilbao Air take part, and is part of the strategy of these institutions to try to reactivate lines that were already operating before the pandemic and to open new routes with markets that are considered strategic for our destination.
The first Eurowings aircraft has arrived at Loiu airport, covering this new route which will operate twice a week.
Bilbao Bizkaia has launched a new air connection with Hamburg, a market that is considered strategic both from a tourist point of view and from an economic perspective in general, as Germany is one of the main sources of tourists to our destination and, furthermore, our business network also has important commercial ties with this country.
The new route, operated by Eurowings with two weekly frequencies, is the result of the work carried out by the Bilbao Airport Routes Committee, which includes the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, Bilbao City Council, the Basque Government, the Chamber of Commerce, Aena and Bilbao Air, and is part of the strategy set out by these institutions to try to reactivate routes that were already operating before the pandemic at the Bizkaia aerodrome and to open new routes with markets that are considered strategic for our destination.
With these objectives in mind, work has been carried out at the Routes and Connect professional connectivity events, at which working meetings have been held with different airlines. These meetings have resulted in the entry into operation of routes such as this one to Hamburg and also those linking Bilbao Bizkaia with Copenhagen, Eindhoven and Istanbul.
This improvement in air connectivity is one of the areas of work set out in the Bilbao Bizkaia 2030 Tourism Strategy.
