La Encartada Moda is an event that stands out for attracting design professionals of local, national and international renown and developing fashion shows, exhibitions, screenings and workshops in a place of industrial heritage that preserves intact its machinery of more than a century of history, La Encartada Fabrika-Museoa.
This edition of La Encartada Moda focused on upcycling and featured fashion shows by designers from Bizkaia such as Leire Rodriguez with her firm Rovel, Pablo Gangoiti, Aiza Couture and Álvaro Valcárcel; the international artist Daniel Lismore, the designer Krizia Robustella, the Reparto brand by Margil Peña and Ana Viglione. Paco Clavel played at the session that brought the Biscayan fashion event to a close.
Encartada Moda 2023, set up by the Provincial Council of Bizkaia and coordinated by Alberto Sinpatron, brought together hundreds of people who were able to enjoy sustainable fashion with a programme that included fashion shows, exhibitions, screenings and workshops given by the Basque BioDesign Center.
The two fashion days also offered upcycling workshops that consisted of building a handbag from industrial waste (given by Iban Buján from Sin Desperdicio, Emaús Fundación Social), as well as re-connecting with the manufacturing processes of the things we use, wear and own in order to understand their value, given by Mariángeles Aguirre from Therapy Recycle. In addition, workshops on biomaterials, textile waste, modular structures and infinite structures were given by Basque BioDesign Center professionals Adele Orcajada, Olatz Pereda and Eduardo Loreto.
At the same time, the people who attended this fashion event were able to enjoy the Aiza Couture textile installation and the exhibition "The Crossing between Upcycling and Biodesign: 5 Key Techniques" by the Basque BioDesign Center, where Upcycling techniques have been shown so that visitors can understand how to give new life to garments that we no longer want to use using biodesign processes (techniques such as visible patchwork, Patchwork, Digital Customization, Bio Customization, Mycelium Lace, Crystallization and Zero Waste).
