Travel trends for 2022, according to Pinterest

The social network predicts every year what will be trending in the future. Do you want to know how and where you will travel next year? By Sara Andrade for Traveler.

Every year, like an oracle, we rely on Pinterest to tell you what will be trending in travel, although they point out up to 175 trends in 2022, we stick with travel. And we do so because Pinterest Predicts has an average accuracy of 80% in its predictions.

The idea search engine analyses what more than 400 million users around the world are searching for in popular categories such as home, fashion, beauty, style, parenting, travel and food, based on an analysis period from October 2019 to September 2021.

Thanks to them, we learned that eco-travel, train travel, and abandoned places would hit hard in 2019 and 2020. And they weren't wrong!

A nocturnal 2022

According to their predictions, in 2022, the most memorable adventures will happen when the sun goes down. Generation Z will choose the quiet of the night to explore nature and lose themselves under the stars. At we have long been creating a guide to the best places in Spain for stargazing, which is why we have some of the best observatories in Europe; and a guide to 25 cities worth a night-time visit.

In fact, searches for night road trips have doubled, with 95% of users interested in bioluminescent aesthetics, and the Han River in South Korea at night (65%). For those who don't know, this river is an experience in itself, the lights that illuminate it attract millions of tourists every year.

There are also searches for sea and beach at night (up 150%) and for nightlife in London (up twice as much).
