The art of Javier Pérez unfolds at Kubo Kutxa

Javier Pérez. Doble
Javier Pérez. Doble latido, 2020

Javier Pérez's works are characterised by a certain syncretism, both in terms of the procedures and the materials used: sculpture, photography, drawing, video and performance are used independently and together to create installations in which interaction and exploration are essential. The exhibition can be visited until 25 september.

Through 4 rooms we travel through the 4 chapters of the story plotted by Javier Pérez and Alfonso de la Torre for this exhibition.

Throughout his career he has used all kinds of supports: organic materials such as intestines, hides, horsehair, parchment, latex and chrysalis; fragile materials such as glass and porcelain or solid materials such as bronze and marble. All of them are used by the artist, demanding situations of high technical risk, but which allow him to move with absolute freedom in his creative process.

In his work, Javier Pérez reveals his enquiries and reflections on the human condition, using a language charged with an intense use of metaphor and impregnated with strong symbolism. His works are intrinsically dialectical, showing how weak the frontiers between apparently opposing concepts such as natural and cultural, interior and exterior or life and death can be. The idea of cyclical fluctuations, circularity, temporality and "impermanence" are some of the artist's recurring themes.
