A new book analyses the context of the first round-the-world voyage

The book "Más allá del mito y la epopeya, el País Vasco y la expedición Magallanes-Elcano en el contexto de la primera globalización" has just been presented, a publication that brings together 12 unpublished articles by specialists directed by four PhD historians from the UPV and coordinated by Elkano Fundazioa, and published with the collaboration of the Department of Culture of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa.

The book brings together 12 unpublished articles by international specialists who contribute new perspectives and knowledge to the 500th anniversary of the first round-the-world voyage and its context. Published by the specialised publishing house Dykinson, the book is now on sale on the publisher's website (https://www.dykinson.com) and at the usual points of sale. It will also be available for consultation in the libraries of Gipuzkoa, distributed by the Provincial Council and the Foundation.

In the words of Rafa Zulaika, member of Elkano Fundazioa, "with this publication, the Foundation continues its line of work consisting of deepening the knowledge of the context in which Elkano's first circumnavigation was possible, disseminating it to society and doing so through collaboration and networking". He thanked the Department of Culture of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa for the support that has made it possible to present this book today and the steering group for their dedication in bringing together a whole series of articles that provide new perspectives and knowledge on the 500th anniversary of the first circumnavigation, and which will undoubtedly be of interest to audiences interested in historical topics but may also be of interest to a wider public, who wish to approach the maritime history of the Basque Country.
