Xabier Urdangarin, mayor of Astigarraga and president of the Sagardun Consortium, presided over the presentation ceremony together with representatives of the Basque Government, the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa and the Euskal Sagardoa Designation of Origin, in which the new harvest was announced and a description of the characteristics of the apple, the sagardo berria and the most important events in the world of cider was given.

The cider 2022

The year 2022 is a year for tasting different types of cider. The 2021 harvest has been very abundant and thanks to this, cider producers have produced different ciders with different apple varieties, among others: single-varietal ciders, ciders made with 2 types of apples, etc.

In addition to natural cider, in recent years cider producers have been producing other types of cider, such as sparkling cider or ice cider.

The apple

The year 2021 has been prosperous and most apple orchards have produced a lot of very healthy apples. The summer drought and the heavy load of fruit on the trees have had an influence and some apple orchards have seen a slight delay in ripening. Around 5 million kilos of apples from 250 local apple growers have been used to produce the cider with the Euskal Sagardoa Designation of Origin.
