The waves are coming!
Spring tides are a natural phenomenon that leave spectacular images on the coast of Gipuzkoa. Autumn is the season of spring tides, and on swell and high tide days, you can enjoy the spectacle of the waves breaking against various points of our coast, creating truly spectacular moments. If you want to enjoy it live... don't forget your raincoat!
The best known and most photographed area to see the waves is the Paseo Nuevo, at the height of the Oteiza sculpture. This corner is a breakwater where you can see waves breaking over 10 metres high. If the weather forecast is very bad, access to the Paseo Nuevo is usually cut off, but you can enjoy the spectacle from Urgull Mountain.

The El Peine del Viento is also an ideal place to have fun with the waves. The fusion between the fierceness of the sea, the strength of Chillida's iron sculptures and the enclave designed by Peña Ganchegui have elevated its natural character from a contemporary work of art to a place for locals and tourists to meet and relax. There is an underground tunnel through which the water enters with force when the tide is rough and sprays water out through the holes provided for everyone to enjoy the spectacle offered by the waves.
