Más sobre:

'Lúa Ribeira. Subida al cielo' is a project made up of five series developed by the photographer Lúa Ribeira between 2016 and 2020: 'Subida al cielo', 'Aristócratas', 'Las visiones', 'La Jungla' and 'Los afortunados'. Until 2 July at Kutxa Kultur Artegunea.

Spread over two floors, 74 works are exhibited together with supporting materials used by the artist in the search for images, forming the most complete and extensive exhibition of her work to date. These five series are grouped according to the same way of working that Lúa has developed during this time and which has as its starting point the recognition of the socio-historical vulnerability of her Galician identity.

This perception translates into an interest in the margins, otherness, mechanisms of exclusion and the questioning of the dominant culture, as well as a desire to transcend boundaries and work outside the structural separations established between different communities and individuals that form part of contemporary societies, alongside whom she has created images, breaking with the usual gaze, placing herself in a place far removed from that of a mere observer and taking an active position through encounter.

The exhibition, curated by Sonia Berger, covers different territories: from the cold parks of the United Kingdom to the borders between Morocco and Europe and Mexico and the United States, passing through the fertile lands of Galicia to an arid Andalusian village. Despite the territorial scope, the five series are grouped together by virtue of shared methodology and political motivation.
