Taste the Goierri region this autumn

Más sobre:
This autumn, savour the Goierri region by attending its gastronomic fairs, events where you will get to know the traditions and the good work of Basque farmers and stockbreeders. And you will understand their way of life, their way of relating to each other and their way of celebrating.

Idiazabal Cheese Championship is held in Idiazabal on 9 October, bringing together the best producers of this famous cheese of the Basque Country.
Mondeju is a sausage that is only produced in some towns in the Goierri region. The result is a white blood sausage made from vegetables and sheep suet. Zaldibia is the star village and it is here that the Ardiki Eguna is held on 30 October. The Idiazabal de Aralar cheese competition is also held here.
In Zegama, a town twinned with Sant Sadurni d'Anoia, the Cava Festival is held on 28 and 29 October.
Morcilla Day (Black Pudding Day) is held in Beasain on Saturday 5 November; a delicacy with its own Brotherhood, very different from that of Burgos -it has no rice- and much appreciated by the great Basque chefs.

The Pig Fair or Txerri Azoka takes place in Mutiloa on 6th November with an exhibition of pigs and pintxo tasting of chorizo, black pudding and roast pork.
The San Martín Livestock Fair is held in Zegama on 15 November, the Sunday closest to San Martín (in the heart of the Aizkorri-Aratz Natural Park), where cows, horses, hundreds of sheep and goats and the occasional wild boar take over the village. The Idiazabal de Aizkorri cheese competition is also held here.
The Reineta apple -Errezil Sagarra- has its big day on 20 November in Gabiria. An exclusive fair dedicated to the cultivation of the apple tree and its fruit, the base of the exquisite cider that you can taste in any of the 5 cider houses in Goierri.
