The Basque Country is recovering its tourism. The region ended 2021 with more than 2.5 million tourists, which means recovering more than one million tourists compared to 2020. The growth compared to 2020 has been more than 75%, although the figures for 2019 have not yet been reached.

The Regional Minister for Tourism, Trade and Consumer Affairs, Javier Hurtado, has assessed the tourism figures at Fitur. "We have seen the tourism figures for 2021 provided by EUSTAT and we can confirm that 2021 has been the year of the beginning of a gradual recovery for the Basque Country. We have recovered more than one million tourists compared to 2020 and the upward trend in the second half of the year has continued until December, which is 200% higher than in 2020 and is close to the figures for 2019", he explained.
70 Basque companies at Fitur
"At this Fitur 2022 fair we have been able to see the strength of our sector, with more than 70 Basque companies accompanying us and more hopeful prospects", concluded the Minister.
