#TuristaMaitea, commitment to sustainable tourism
The Regional Minister for Tourism, Trade and Consumer Affairs, Javier Hurtado, presented this Wednesday the campaign '#TuristaMaitea', which forms part of the Ethical Code of Tourism programme and which focuses on the joint search for a respectful, "sustainable tourism that involves the whole sector, visitors and administrations".
This year, the Basque Code of Ethics will involve 600 tourism organisations and the campaign for its implementation will be disseminated in digital media, Internet platforms and social networks. "The aim is to involve our visitors, those who are already here, those who are planning to visit and also the Basque tourism sector," said the minister.
Javier Hurtado stated that this campaign aims to highlight the "attitude of visitors in choosing this destination and the commitment involved in making this decision based on the unique model of our tourism and its differentiated offer". He also thanked "the travellers who choose us as a destination to visit".
The #TuristaMaitea campaign also wants to thank the efforts of tourism and its professionals, which is why it has been starring a diverse representation of real tourist agents. Shopkeepers, waitresses, cooks, informers, guides, monitors, hotel staff, sign interpreters, etc. Hosts of a great little place who, as one of the audiovisual pieces states: "are the face of the thousand faces of the Basque Country". Some of these people accompanied the Minister at the press conference and symbolically signed their commitment to sustainable tourism.
