PerretxiCo and Grupo Hirviendo will receive the Prize of Honour at the 'XVII Campeonato de Pintxos 18/70 Euskadi y Navarra - Euskal Herriko XVII. Pintxo Txapelketa 2022', for their promotion and expansion of the PerretxiCo Taverns, with their slogan "we are pintxicultores", constituting an element of relevant importance in the promotion, dissemination and excellent image of pintxos as a genuine gastronomic formula of the Basque Country.

PerretxiCo's versatile gastronomic proposal, designed to delight everyone, is led by its chef Josean Merino and proposes a route through the flavours of Euskadi with local products through bites that evoke tradition and origin. As they point out, they offer "pintxos with tradition and evolution, that is what our taverns are, we are a family of pintxos".

Josean Merino has more than 20 years of experience in the kitchen, during which time he has reaped great success in various competitions, including the award for the Best Pintxo Bar in Spain at the Lo Mejor de la Gastronomía congress.

"Growing up without losing the soul"

The effort to expand the Basque pintxo nationwide while maintaining the highest quality standards that have earned it this award has led PerretxiCo and the Hirviendo Group to open nine establishments with the same enthusiasm, effort, hard work and humility as the first one in Vitoria.

Cities such as Madrid, Santander and Logroño are also part of the PerretxiCo family, allowing the brand to grow, so that more and more people can enjoy the great experience of pintxos in taverns.

After nine years of success with their pintxos, tapas and platiCos, PerretxiCo and Grupo Hirviendo are continuing their expansion plan with plans for cities such as San Sebastian, Málaga and Valladolid, among others.

XVII PINTXO CHAMPIONSHIP 18/70 EUSKADI AND NAVARRA will be held from 14th to 16th October 2022 in Bilbao.

Everything is ready in Bilbao to host the XVII edition of the Pintxo Championship 18/70 Euskadi and Navarra - Euskal Herriko XVII. Pintxo Txapelketa, at the Bilbao Events facilities (entrance on the pedestrian Lutxana street).

The best chefs in the world of pintxos will meet on Friday, 14th October, in four qualifying rounds, two in the morning and two in the afternoon, with a space for the public to enjoy a tasting of pintxos while watching the competition showcooking.

This competition based on pintxos from the Basque Country, Navarre and the North Basque Country was born in Hondarribia in 2006, and has been held in this city for the most editions, although it has travelled to other cities such as Donostia-San Sebastián and Vitoria-Gasteiz and, in 2022, Bilbao.

With the new additions, the Basque Country now has a total of 101 suns in 66 award-winning restaurants. The Gipuzkoan restaurants ‘Ama’ and ‘Narru’; the Bizkaia restaurants ‘Gotzon’, ‘Jauregibarria’, ‘La despensa de Etxanobe’ and ‘Remenetxe’; and the Álava restaurant ‘Kea’.
