The Department of Mobility, Tourism and Territorial Planning has announced the first edition of the So Gipuzkoa awards, an award that seeks to recognise the good practices that are being carried out in the field of tourism in the territory and that help us to position ourselves as a quality sustainable tourist destination. As explained by the deputy Azahara Domínguez, there will be three categories in this first edition. On the one hand, the So Gipuzkoa Award for professional career, which aims to recognise those people who, through their business and professional career, have contributed or are contributing to the positioning of Gipuzkoa as a quality, competitive and sustainable tourist destination.

On the other hand, the So Gipuzkoa Award for the sustainable project, an award aimed at local or regional tourist organisations that have carried out responsible and sustainable initiatives through actions in the social, environmental and economic spheres in their area of influence. And finally, the So Gipuzkoa Award for digitalisation, which will reward the efforts of those entities that boost their competitiveness through digitalisation and innovation in the tourism sector.

"Gipuzkoa is a territory with a long tradition of tourism and has been characterised by its welcoming nature. However, since the end of ETA terrorism, Gipuzkoa has experienced the rebirth of tourist activity and the companies, entities and people who make up the tourist industry have had very few years to turn our territory into the sustainable, quality tourist destination that it is today. For this reason, we believe that the time has come to recognise the enormous work that these people and entities have carried out, because if the tourism industry currently accounts for 7.1% of Gipuzkoa's GDP, it is due to the enormous amount of work that they have done’, stressed the deputy.

Interested entities must submit their completed and signed applications before 22 October at the electronic headquarters of the Provincial Council. In addition, they must attach an explanatory report stating, in a reasoned and sufficient manner, the merits of the candidacy, as well as promotional graphic material (mp4 format videos and/or high-resolution royalty-free images) and any other documents that accredit the merits identified in the report.
