La Gabarra celebrates the Cup 40 years later
Bilbao and its estuary are full to the brim for the celebration of the Cup, won last Saturday at La Cartuja in Seville against Mallorca. After 40 years of absence, the famous Gabarra returns to ply the estuary and it is estimated that almost a million people, stationed on the sides, will not cease to celebrate the red triumph throughout the day.

The 'Athletic' barge has transported the red and white team that won the Copa del Rey last Saturday in Seville in splendid weather along the Nervión estuary starting from the Real Club Marítimo del Abra, in Las Arenas (Getxo) as it happened in the era of titles in the 80's of the last century when Athletic won a League in 1983 and a 'triplete', League, Cup and Super Cup, in 1984.
Precisely the champions of that last Cup until this Saturday's Cup in La Cartuja have accompanied the players coached by Ernesto Valverde on the journey, in another boat. His assistant, Jon Aspiazu, is the only one who repeats in the cabinet because he was part of that Athletic 'Txapeldun'.
The first forecast of the institutions, prior to the event, was that about one million people would be stationed on both sides of the estuary and at other points from which the route can be seen. The barge, on its 13 km journey , passed through the towns of Getxo, Santurtzi, Portugalete, Leioa, Sestao, Barakaldo and Erandio until it reached Bilbao.
