The Regional Minister for Tourism, Trade and Consumer Affairs, Javier Hurtado, took part in the celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the "Surfing Euskadi" product club, where he explained that it was created by the Department of Tourism through Basquetour to promote surfing as an element of tourism attraction, strengthening the competitiveness and collaboration of its companies and schools, as well as the promotion of surfing and coastal resources.

The aim of the event is to vindicate, as the Minister analysed, several of the values of surfing for the Basque Country. Firstly, its ability to deseasonalise. "Surfing is a sport that can be practised all year round and which should not be limited to the summer months".

Secondly, the aim is to highlight the work of the club members "who work throughout the year in coordination and with the support of the Tourism Department to improve and reinforce our surfing product and its promotion".

And finally, "we want to bring surfing even closer to the public and our visitors with a campaign that includes a raffle of material and activities, as well as other actions such as specialised press trips, influencers and promotional videos, among others".

In 2019, before Covid, almost half a million visitors came to the Basque Coast, to Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa, and in these 8 months of 2022 there are already more than 300,000 visitors. "In many cases beach tourism, nature tourism, family tourism, and also a part attracted by the waves on our beaches, which are world-renowned. And we want to continue to promote surfing and the attraction of our coasts, especially out of season. In short, we want to promote surfing, make the work of our companies visible and turn this tenth anniversary into a boost for the Euskadi surfing club".
