Dantzaldia 2022 Bilbao kicks off with flamenco

Más sobre:

Dantzaldia 2022, the 23rd edition of the Bilbao International Dance Festival, will bring to different stages in Bizkaia between 22 September and 1 December a dozen events that will showcase current trends in contemporary dance, both local and national and international. This year, the shows programmed will have something in common: they will be contemporary creations but conceived "from the roots, from tradition", in the words of the organisers.

Thus, there will be choreographers who, after a solid career in renowned companies, are now developing their own more daring projects (the Sevillian Guillermo Weickert or the Andalusian Manuel Rodríguez), dancers who recover traditional dance to give it a new approach (the Guipuzcoans Haatik) or creators trained in flamenco, such as the Chilean twins Florencia Oz and Isidora O'Ryan, whose unusual and surrealist proposal earned the former the Revelation Artist Award at the Jerez Festival 2021. Currently promoted as great stars of the new flamenco, they will be one of the highlights of Dantzaldia 2022, where they will present their show "Antípodas" on 19 November (at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao). The following day, Florencia Oz will give a masterclass, also as part of the festival.

In order to bring contemporary dance closer to the general public, several performances will be free of charge, while for the others, tickets will be available at various affordable prices (from €4.5 + booking fee)
New venue, the Fine Arts Museum
In 2022 Dantzaldia will add a new venue: the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum. The hall of the old building of the art gallery will be the unexpected setting for one of the most original proposals of this edition. Two pieces (one by the aforementioned Haatik - "Ur"- and another by the Galician Fran Sieira - "DeMente"-) will be on view there on 11 October, with free admission until full capacity is reached, as the public will be seated on the stairs and on the main balustrade. Azkuna Zentroa - Alhóndiga Bilbao, Barakaldo Antzokia or the Guggenheim Bilbao will repeat as venues for the event.
Affordable prices
The 2022 edition of Dantzaldia will maintain the festival's firm commitment (since its creation in 2000) to bring contemporary dance to the general public, so several performances will be free of charge, while for the others, tickets will be available at different prices (from €4.5 + expenses). Tickets can be purchased through the channels (websites and ticket offices) of each of the Dantzaldia 2022 venues (some are already available, others will be available soon).
